By Allan Holmes  |  Friday, October 10, 2008 |  5:19 PM

Chase Garwood, the chief information officer for the U.S. Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology program, has been named the CIO for the National Protection and Programs Directorate, which is part of the Homeland Security Department. "With the addition of Chase, we continue to build our Directorate’s support infrastructure to enable us to meet our growing needs and to facilitate the execution of the mission. Please welcome Chase to his new role on NPPD’s executive team," according to an email sent out to the directorate's staff. Matt Coose had served as acting CIO for seven months.

The US VISIT program is part of the directorate, as is the Office of Cybersecurity and Communications, the Office of Infrastructure Protection, and the Office of Intergovernmental Programs.

Chase is definitely the right choice for this position. He has worked hard and made major contributions to the success at US-VISIT. We can be confident that he will continue that record in his new position.
